Hi! I’m Joi, a software engineer whose work focuses on recommendation systems and search relevance. I created this space to encourage myself to write down my thoughts, build more, and explore questions within and beyond code. My current interests include:
- how we can design digital spaces that encourage deep focus, close observation, and creative flow in an age of distraction
- how technology can enhance the human experience and language learning
- how AI and the humanities can enrich each other while preserving what makes us human
When I’m away from my desk, I enjoy hiking in the mountains and photographing mundane moments I find beautiful. Each year, I (try to) spend a month living in a new city or doing a long-distance hike.
Things that make me happy on an ordinary day: the press of my morning French press, an interesting essay, a well-made film, and a conversation with friends that leads to new ideas.
